Will Door-to-door Sales Jobs Lead To White Collar Marketing Job?
I have been trying to get a white collar marketing job, like account manager or marketing assistant/coordinator for over 2 years now since graduating college. I always see these “marketing dept, no exp needed, rapid advancement” ads in the paper that are very vague and do not list a company name. When I go to the interview, it turns out to be going door to door selling something, like kirby vaccums..I want to know if this kinda job will look good on a resume and one day get me a corporate job in marketing.

Yes but you need to transition from selling vacuums to products that businesses buy, for example data storage solutions, uniforms, advertising, etc.
The more you want, the more you have to give. For example, if you want to advance quickly, then you need to be open to relocating anywhere that you can legally have a job. Unfortunately, corporate jobs are 90% who you know and 10% what you know, so you do have your work cut out for you. There’s also a bias against young people in corporate jobs. They’ll find any excuse as to why you don’t have enough experience.

Truly speaking you get a very good experience with people skills in door to door but after that it depends on how you grow, Even i use to do door to door sales but now i have developed such a lot of confidence that i can speak to any stranger and get him speaking as well. It definitely develops your public skills. All white colors jobs are associated with dealing and handling people too. If you are good in leading people you can definitely say that this is a very fundamental step you need to take for getting a marketing white collar job.
Cheers!!

It could but not necessarily. That’s a hard job - door to door sales. I would avoid those ads. The job market is tough now. It’s been tough for a number of years but it’s the worst that I’ve seen. I remember when it was thriving - so much better. I am a marketing and sales assistant. I have a business degree and now an MBA. I just kind of got lucky. I had been working in banking/finance/investments and then moved to pharmacy and ended up here. I was basically a glorified administrative assistant. Have you applied to ad agencies? You should visit local companies websites to see what’s available or just submit your resume. Network - talk to people.

The door to door sales jobs you mention are not the path to go down to achieve your stated goals. Try looking at PR & Advertising firms

According to Robert Kiyosaki, it will, if you have a plan

No. The door-to-door jobs are usually a dead-end. No chance for advancement in the sense that you want to climb up the management ladder. You are selling over-priced items and hoping for an “impulse-buy” from the homeowner. You are not going to see much of that during an economic downturn..
