Sata Hard Drive Dose Not Show Up In Explorer?

i have have purchase a wd sata hd model number WD2500BEVS but i needed a external case, so i got a generic case off ebay. i put the hard drive in the case and connect it to my pc but the hard drive doses not show up in explorer but device manager tells me it is working properly but the location were it would tell me the name of drive says location 0 (external). both the case and the drive are brand new out of the box so i don’t know what the problem is. i cant even see the drive to format it if that was the case. can some one help me please. i’m using Windows xp with sp3

You can not see it because it is not yet formatted and has no volume label. It should show up in Disk Management under Computer Management (right click My Computer, select Manage). You should be able to format/partition that drive in Disk Management.
